Monopoly review. Classic Game Room presents a CGR Undertow review of Monopoly for Nintendo Game Boy developed by Sculptured Software and published by Parker Bros.

Monopoly – arguably the most famous board game this side of chess – struggles sometimes with obtuse rules, fiddly calculations, and a long playtime due to having to search for deeds, analyze the board state, and so on. A digital representation was welcome, and thus the NES (and later this Game Boy) version were met with enthusiasm in 1991. Though these early versions weren’t able to include the familiar “house rules” popular with most players, they did manage to teach the rules… even the ones no one could really remember.

This video review features video gameplay footage of Monopoly for Game Boy and audio commentary from Classic Game Room’s TJ.

  1. It seems like every Sunday morning I'm watching CGR 🙂

  2. Haha. Love the reference to "Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?" at the end.

  3. Can you do a review for NBA 3 on 3 Kobe Bryant for gameboy?

  4. tj, don't you got anything better to do other than review a game boy version of monopoly?

  5. Don't u got anything better to do than watching it?

  6. I gotta say, I liked Monopoly for the N64. Never played it for any other system though.

  7. Digital jerks have plagued our lives for too long!

  9. This would be perfect with 3DS Restore Points.

  10. The ending theme music was always so satisfying. I only played it on NES. Any time you added more than one computer opponent, they'd conspire against you, trading all of their properties so they'd all have monopolies. They'd never trade with you either.

  11. let me know when you wake up from the salvia trip and feel like a complete jackass

  12. Sonic Monopoly, Street Fighter Monopoly, Simpsons Monopoly, Family Guy Monopoly, Spider-Man Monopoly…

  13. This is my favorite video game port. Other ports are so sluggish with tedious animations and are almost unplayable.

  14. It's 10% of your assets for Income Tax, not 15%.
