Who the hell has a pile of shame? Every time I buy a box it's assembled by the end of the week.
GW is continuing Cursed City through White Dwarf issues
Tabletop sim will be fine because its fans who make the 40k stuff same as Battlescribe – if they monetise then they could be taken down but GW, like any company are allowed to protect their IP. Also GW had nothing at all to do with TTS quitting, notice that all his videos are still up? Doing nothing is not a great shield to protect him from something scary is it? Also, he knows he would have been fine under fair use but he also knows that agreeing to a simple cease and desist does not result in a lawsuit. Nice way to drum up extra cash jumping on the GW hate train though, while also protecting him from the sort of rabid fans that forced Sodaz to quit.
False scarcity? maybe I dont know but there is a huge issue with the global pandemic effecting everything in every facet of production so it could be that, its worth looking at that when things settle down properly and then deciding either way, meh, they can choose to not make more money really.
They have not acted on a new policy at all, they changed a few words for whatever reason but there is a huge difference between changing words and acting on those words – since then nothing has happened. They tried to recruit some animators ( only animators too ) and those who declined were asked not to monetise, nothing else has happened.
GW would never touch these sorts of videos, that is an absurd slippery slope chunk of fearmongering crap. If someone was to reupload all your videos onto their channel, would you be fine with that? It works both ways, those super scary laws that TTS is pretending to be so afraid of are the same laws which would protect him when he releases his own original content as he plans to do.
What company doesnt have a monopoly on their own product?
As a thought, are the channels that show how to paint with GW paints in danger of being closed down? They are using the GW names and getting views on their channels and content!!!!
I was looking at jumping in finally make an army. But now I am stopping because I can't justify supporting them.
Great video explaining the complexity of my feelings around all this. They continue to make products that I like so I want to support them but equally I think they seem to repeatedly make short sighted decisions from a community POV.
GW Monopoly??? Monopoly over what? Their own IP? What a stupid statement.
Love the analysis as if GW is a 40k unit 🤣
I'm currently making the transition to historical wargames.
Too much hassle worrying about this kind of stuff.
So I will say is discount the Cursed City thing because I do not think that’s them at all. However the rest of the list is quite damning. They did such a good job of turning it around, now they are backsliding again
#boycottGW and get a 3D printer
GW actinin like uh twat , so all dah boyz is pirates now
Just got onto someone with a 3d printer willing to print me up some models. I was looking forward to Warhammer plus too til they tried to kill the fan base for it.
Seeing their stock theit did everything right in the last 7-8 years
3 words to solve the GW / Warhammer problems:
INFINITY
CORVUS
BELLI.
Amazing metal mini / a company that is listening to the community / free rules and great app to create your army / Very well balanced game and armies
Just been looking at some official warhammer facebook posts. Theres a ton of angry reacts, but cant find a single negative comment…
Got into WHFB in 2003, 40K in 2018. Having invested a lot of time and money in GW, I'm now playing Grimdark Future with my Tyranids and Necrons. Easy to learn, tactically deep and balanced armies. I don't see anything in the Codex Roadmap released today that gives me any hope GW is going to fix anything in the near or mid term future. GW's rules are bloated, scattered and clunky.
GW has a monopoly over Warhammer. THEY OWN THE IP OF IT SIR. WHAT POINT IS THAT?! You'd want to make all the decisions to an IP you owned too if you had one man.
GW is a sinking ship. Jump before you go down with it…
Been here since 5e. This is the straw that broke the camels back for me. They have no loyalty to their customers so I’ve lost loyalty to them. Third party minis. 3D prints. Piracy table top sim, other editions and other table top games are far more appealing to me than they once were
Honestly think GW is shooting themselves in the foot. I stayed away from 40k due to price. But all the YT fan made stuff shined a light on the property and started to buy into it. Now, I'm going to wait and see. May just jump out, take a loss and choose something else that is lot more fan positive. Ironically, Wargaming is going through some similar issues; pissing off the fanbase but for other reasons. Wonder if they hired the same PR firm.
9E proving to be garbage. Not even plastic Krieg can save the dumpster fire. Haven't bought plastic in over a month, plan to keep it that way until Gee Willy's sends me a check for the pile of dust I have in the closet.
It really sucks that to have found this out only days after I had decided after many years of consideration to make the big financial investment into getting an army started. My first step into the hobby and already I'm in the trenches of a fan civil war. And yet, what is equally depressing is the sense of deja-vu with all of this, as I feel this situation is all too common with big industry titans. It almost makes me wonder why people even bother to put their hearts and souls into creating content in service of a property that will never see their endeavours as anything but an immediate threat to their bottom line.
Annoying as well is that recourse only really boils down to "Make more noise". Much as I say that "it sucked" to have bought GW stuff in light of these situations, I also realize that my solidarity really wouldn't have made a difference anyway. How many hundreds of thousands of dollars does 40k makes off the backs of the oblivious, like how I just dumped a couple hundred without even knowing about this? How many just don't feel convicted to rise to the cause and who is to say they are wrong to make that decision? Even if a mass-boycott were to be orchestrated and GW took financial heat, that anger will only be felt by the entirely wrong people. The guys in charge, those making these decisions, are so far from the frontlines, already in cushy positions atop their ivory towers. The ones that suffer will have been the day to day workers that just found out they were fired in a company-wide downscaling of staff and resources.
One thing is for certain though. This whole charade has made WH+ nothing but a joke in my eyes and if there's anything I won't give money to, it's that absolute farse.
Without being melodramatic, I'm done with GW. There is nothing they can offer me that I can't find elsewhere, for less money and less hassle. I don't know why I should continue to support company that literally has the opportunity to be one of the most positive forces in the wargaming community and instead chooses to act like a spoiled, money-hungry schoolyard bully. The recent shitty behavior is just them showing their true colors.
"The background is about as rich and deep as any sci-fi universe…"
*Laughs in battletech
Best thing at this point is to NOT get warhammer plus. They wanna screw with us and those invested, then I say screw with them and their cash flow. Plus like Outer Circle says, send them a hand written letter with your receipts, or sprues, pics of you with your armies and even pics of you cancelling your accounts. WE MUST TAKE A STAND against his style of unethical business practice.
Watch how they change their behaviour if you stop buying their shit for a while.
Even AOS was doing so well…and then…
Games workshop games are pretty much subscription based at the moment.
I'm no longer buying anything from gw. If I want a model, I will get it deco d hand or go 3rd party models. And I have wanted to try out other games anyway.
I had an opinionated but non toxic comment on the official Warhammer Instagram content page, it was on a post to do with Warhammer plus and the new models, it was deleted within an hour.
I wasn't attacking anyone and I wasn't losing my cool, the message was something like this "I'm so torn because I really love the hobby and the new models coming out, I also really want to see the animations when they come out, but I'm appalled by the way games workshop is handling its IP and the way they are treating the content creators. I don't think I want to support that behaviour"
Looks like they are making sure nobody has any grounds to have reasonable discussion and debate, time to invest in a 3d printer?
As a GW shareholder, nothing will change, the little piggies will keep buying their precious plastic.
I remember when GW put down the great roster builder, the gossip says that developer get the job at GW. Still the official roster builder is shit..Its just company being lazy and employees don't care on their privileged positions.
Makes me glad I got out of the GW game sphere years ago when they killed Fantasy. Switching over to playing games from companies like Mantic and Warlord along with all the other cool independent game developers had lead to more tabletop fun and positive interactions with game developers than I ever did while playing 40k and Fantasy.
I love how you sound like your vocally facepalming the entire time😎 ALSO WARMACHINE/HORDES is pretty cool.
I just got my TTWG group to flip to one page rules, stargrave, and frostgrave

I love the 40K universe, the lore, and the joy of painting. But I hate the way GW operates: from the rather mundane factors like the constant price hikes for seemingly less models – as a New Zealander having to pay around $100 for 10 models is a joke; to the more complex ethical problems examined in this video. As such I 'vote' with my wallet – I buy recasts for a fraction of the price. Yes, i'm a filthy heretic, but I won't give my money to GW while they continue to operate the way they do. Hell, I enjoy giving my money to some Chinese bloke who's ripping GW off and doing a damn good job at it – it makes me happy. If GW ever decide to not be scummy greedy twats i'll buy their models from them directly. Until then, fuck 'em. Happy painting everyone xoxox.

I've said it many times and I'll say it again. I've never seen a company squander an IP wiith so much potential as what GW do with warhammer fantasy/40k

One page rules + 3D printer I just bought. My gaming can go on without Games Workshop. Not only that but as I'm older now I really prefer a more simple ruleset and I'm not interested in playing rules lawyer and arguing with people at tournaments anymore.

It’s certainly not a coincidence that good ol’ Battletech is undergoing a Revival right now. (Pun intended, for all you clanners out there.) And given the legal crap Battletech has put up with over the years, I can’t see them pulling some “Battletech plus” nonsense and shutting down pillars of the community like Tex. (Seriously, go watch Tex Talks Battletech, it’s pretty much the TTS of the setting.)
