Something real happens and then it’s exaggerated and told both orally and written for centuries in a game of telephone becoming more elaborate and extreme as time goes by. If this event did happen, all the historic documentation of it would likely be seen as developed myth, like the flood is. THOUSANDS of ancient sources talking about the flood, but scholastically it’s considered developed myth from a much more realistic local event.
